Wearable Art

A mini-dress made entirely of Sweet-n-Low™ packets; an evening gown covered in plush stuffed animals; a cape that inflates to a stunning peacock-like display. These are just a few examples of the creations modeled in the annual Wearable Art fashion show sponsored by the 1708 Art Gallery. The annual event is a stunning and creative collision of fashion, sculpture, media and movement that showcases the creativity of VCU students. Through their creations they vie for scholarships and honors before sell-out crowds. This extraordinary evening brings together the worlds of art and fashion in a one-of-a-kind runway show. Art students from VCU, along with local and regional professional artists, create wearable art works that range from formally beautiful and exquisitely detailed garments to hilarious works of social commentary.
